Next To Normal

On December 17th I closed the inaugural production at The Studio Theatre Tierra Del Sol: Next To Normal.  I was honored to have the opportunity to play Diana again in a 100% sold out run.  And every audience lept to their feet at curtain call.  It was an absolutely amazing experience.  And now, I am excited to start my next project at The Studio: The Last Five Years.  I will start rehearsals for that in just three short weeks!

The Studio Theatre Tierra Del Sol

The Studio_FBI usually use this site specifically for performance updates, casting announcements, reviews and the like, but today my day job is colliding with my performing life.  For the last two years I have been working Artistic Director at The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center.  Tomorrow we officially launch our sister space:  The Studio Theatre Tierra Del Sol, as our first season of subscriptions will go on sale!

The Studio is a professional production company in its own intimate 99 seat black box space.   We will produce four productions with twenty five performances each every November – April.  For our first season those four shows will be: Next To Normal by Brian Yorky and Tom Kitt, Private Lives by Noel Coward, The Last Five Years by Jason Robert Brown, and Proof by David Auburn.

Now here is where the collision happens:  I will be performing in three of those four productions.  My casting is as follows:

Next To Normal – Diana Goodman

The Last Five Years – Cathy

Proof – Claire

It’s going to be great fun and a wonderful challenge to wear both the Actor and Artistic Director Hats, but I am excited about it.

1776: All Female Cast!

I am so pleased to announce that I am currently playing George Read in an ALL FEMALE production of 1776 at Mad Cow Theatre in Downtown Orlando, Florida.  I had a great time working there around this time last year in Secret Garden, and it is an honor to tread those same boards again with these powerful women.  Don’t miss this revolutionary take on our country’s revolution.

For Tickets: check out Mad Cow’s website!

Don’t Tell Nonnie

DTN Close Up

Over the last 18 months or so I have been transitioning from Chicago-based actor to Florida-based Artistic Director and Actor (who still has a place in Chicago so have no fear I am still a local hire) at The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center.  You can learn more about The Sharon HERE.  We are doing many exciting things at The Sharon, one of my favorites is our new Piano Bar Series in The Lobby Lounge called Don’t Tell Nonnie in which I serve as hostess for the evening.  We did one already in March and it was a HUGE success.  Our next one is just around the corner on May 3rd.  If you’re in the Central Florida area come on over to The Sharon with your sheet music and join in the fun.

“Whitney Morse shines as Miss Minerva Pilbeam. While stern and straightforward in character, Whitney Morse has an eloquent, one of a kind character voice and strong stage presence that stands out among the cast, and delivers some terrific laugh lines along the way.” – Luke Simone for The Chicago Stage Standard.
